1) Get familiar with the basic physics principles that allow us to understand the properties of solid state materials
2) Understand the importance of the crystalline order in solids
3) Aquire basic concepts about crystalline lattices and the techniques to study them.
4) Understand the importance of the dynamics of electrons in the conductance properties of materials
5) Understand the importance of the quantum behaviour of electrons in metals
6) Understand the origin of the energy bands in solids and basic notions on their calculation
