This subject provides students with theories and linguistic perspectives that can be used in the analysis of language for specific purposes or specialised languages, for example pragmalinguistics, sociopragmatics, text linguistics, discourse analysis, conversation analysis, relevance theory, politeness theory or intercultural pragmatics.

-To know about the different theories and linguistic models, especially those under the "umbrella term" of pragmatics, which may be applied to the study of languages for specific purposes, especially English and Spanish for specific purposes.
-To apply different theories and linguistic models to the analysis of languages for specific purposes, for example legal English/Spanish, business English/Spanish, English/Spanish for tourism, English/Spanish for science and technology, English/Spanish for medicine and health sciences, etc.
-To study the relationship between specialised languages and the different professional contexts in which they are used, especially English and Spanish for specific purposes.
-To obtain linguistic training and professional capability for working in contexts, enterprises, and European institutions related.
-To be able to design a linguistic and inter-disciplinary research study in the area of English and Spanish for specific purposes.
-To practice, with texts selected, the differences of a linguistic and pragmatic kind that professional discourses exhibit, with the objective of improving and solving the important linguistic-communicative issues that can be found in this kind of discourse.
-To be able to produce and interpret in an adequate way written and oral specialised discourses, both in English and Spanish for specific purposes.
-To develop a critical but flexible attitude concerning specialised languages, as concerning their presence in the different professional areas.
-To develop a self-critical attitude towards training oneself in an autonomous and permanent manner.
-To be able to update and develop, in an autonomous way, the knowledge related to the models and perspectives related to Spanish and English as specialised languages.
-To develop an ability to collaborate, compromise and be responsible in shared tasks.
