Course context for academic year 2021-22

This course will explore new trends in British narrative from the late 20th century until the present, and may include writing from the Commonwealth as well.

General Competences (CG)

  • CG1 : Acquire the methodology and resources needed for literary research.
  • CG2 : Acquire specific advanced knowledge (regarding those acquired in the degree course) of the subjects studied.
  • CG3 : Acquire specific knowledge of the subjects studied for its professional application in the field of teaching.

 

Specific Competences:>>Conceptual knowledge / theoretical frameworks

  • CE2 : Understand the new content proposed for literature courses.
  • CE3 : Understand the methodological procedures used to analyse literary texts.
  • CE4 : Reflect on recurring themes and motifs in literature.
  • CE6 : Acquire the philological resources needed to carry out literary research work (critical editing, bibliographic searches, databases, quotation systems, etc.).

 

Specific Competences:>>Procedural capabilities, skills and abilities

  • CE12 : Carry out self-guided bibliographic searches using both electronic and traditional resources.
  • CE9 : Apply the knowledge acquired to carrying out self-guided research work into literature.

This course involves:

- the study and exploration of new trends in contemporary narrative in English, placed in its historical and intellectual contexts

- the ability to read and understand criticism and literary theory, and to establish a dialogue between the literary text and a given theoretical framework

- the development of sophisticated reading skills, analytical writing skills, and research skills
