Competencies and objectives


Course context for academic year 2021-22

This course describes the automatic control systems and their application to automation and robotics tasks. Automatic control is crucial in the generation and transmission of energy, process control in manufacturing, communication, transportation and even entertainment. The range of career opportunities offered by the automatic control has expanded greatly and has new challenges to be addressed throughout the course. Thus, this course describes not only a theoretical concepts but also from practical ones with special attention to robot control systems.

  • CG2 : Make decisions in the design and planning of a robotics and/or automation project, taking into account quality and environmental criteria.
  • CG3 : Implement and maintain robotics and/or automation projects that satisfy the requirements of industrial or service applications.
  • CG5 : Understand current scientific articles on robotics and automation.
  • CG6 : Analyse, synthesise problems and make decisions.

  • CG12 : Capacity to apply the knowledge acquired to real situations.

Specific Competences:>>Automation

  • CEAU6 : Apply specific methods, techniques and instruments to develop real-time, fault-tolerant systems for controlling, monitoring and processing data in industrial processes.


Specific Competences:>>Control Theory

  • CECO1 : Decide the most appropriate kind of automatic control and know how to select the correct corresponding devices, to implement a particular application.
  • CECO2 : Analyse and understand the configuration of an existing control in order to modify or update it.
  • CECO3 : Propose and design control and automation systems in different tertiary sector contexts using one's knowledge of the potential needs normally present in the same.
  • CECO4 : Use the techniques and instruments required to configure controllers for robotics and automation applications.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2021-22

To obtain basic knowledge about the state space methodology and its application to automatic control.

To determine the parameters of a controller based on a preliminary analysis of the plant to be controlled.

Make use of a plc and a frequency control elements.

Ability to understand the main components of an automatic control system and the devices that form it.

Adjust PID controllers in real systems.
