Competencies and objectives


Course context for academic year 2021-22

The subject Computer and Networks Maintenance Engineering (from now on IMCR), is framed in the branch known as Computer Architecture and Technologies. It is the first course, as an optional, of Engineering of Computers path in Computer Engineering Grade in the University of Alicante, providing an overview of the most important aspects that needs to be known for this branch.

T this course has a very well defined by the transversal scope and practical application, which competencies are closely link to the needs of the society. IMCR addresses the aspects, knowledge and skills involved in the analysis and proposal of an engineering project related to Internet-of-Things (IoT), sensorization, synchronisation, integration of computers and sensors, among others. Here students will study and put in practice the work of an engineer including the main stages necessary to tackle in a project, from the initial analysis until the adaptation of the maintenance on a long-term basis of the elements in the system.

The course may include a project frame in the path of Engineering of Computers related to other subjects of the same itinerary, providing to the student an integral vision of different parts of a larger project.

  • CEIC3 : Capacity to analyse and evaluate computer architectures, including parallel and distributed platforms, as well as to develop and optimise software for the same.
  • CEIC4 : Capacity to design and implement systems and communications software.
  • CEIC7 : Capacity to analyse, evaluate, select and configure hardware platforms to develop computer applications and services.
  • CEIC8 : Capacity to design, deploy, administrate and manage computer networks.


Basic Competences

  • CB3 : Students must be able to gather and interpret relevant data (usually within their area of study) in order to make judgements that include reflection on relevant social, scientific or ethical issues.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2021-22

  • To know and apply design methodologies technological projects of IoT, computer vision, machine learning, etc.

  • To know the terminology and the state of the art of the components in a system, including intelligent systems, sensors, computers, etc.

  • Initiate in research and management of scientific articles, useful dataset for the project, and management of references.

  • Identify the different modules that can conform a computational system, as well as his definition, the interaction among them, and their maintenance in its life cycle. Purchase the ability to design a plan of efficient and attainable contingencies in the frame of the subject.

  • Purchase skills in the presentation of information, both in written and oral.

  • Purchase a critical attitude in the description and assessment of the information found in the development of the subject.
