  ENGLISH FOR INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS I

Competencies and objectives

 

Course context for academic year 2021-22

This module is based on the B2 level for the English Language (according to the Common European Reference Framework). The contents of the module are studied within the context of intercultural communication and the relationships that take place between players from different countries and cultures, both at the spoken and written level. 
The module provides awareness of the context, professional practice and activities within the sphere of International Relations, using English as a written and spoken lingua franca for communication.

Transversal Competences

  • CT1 : Capacidades informáticas e informacionales
  • CT2 : Ser capaz de comunicarse correctamente tanto de forma oral como escrita
  • CT3 : Capacidad de análisis y síntesis
  • CT4 : Capacidad de organización y planificación

 

Competencias Generales

  • CG3 : Usar el inglés con propiedad según la terminología científica y académica propia de las relaciones internacionales
  • CG4 : Obtener y gestionar la información relativa al ámbito de las relaciones internacionales
  • CG7 : Adquirir la capacidad de aprendizaje autónomo

 

Competencias Específicas

  • CE18 : Comunicar en una segunda lengua internacional, a nivel oral y escrito, con razonable fluidez en situaciones de la vida cotidiana y profesional así como en ámbitos objeto de estudio.
  • CE27 : Utilizar el inglés como lengua franca en contextos internacionales.
  • CE28 : Conocer y aplicar las estrategias comunicativas y la terminología propia de las lenguas de trabajo en contextos internacionales.

· Understanding clear and specialized (technical and professional) discourse according to the language level in each case.
· Producing spontaneous speeches (or not) or conversations which are clear and specialized (technical and professional) according to the language level in each case.
· Interacting with an average degree of fluidness and spontaneity, making it possible to regularly inteact with native and non-native speakers in the sphere of international relations according to the language level in each case.

· Understanding written specialized (technical and professional) texts within the sphere of international relations, according to the language level in each case.
· Producen coherent, specialized (technical and professional) written texts within the sphere of international relations, according to the language level in each case.
· Mastering the grammar and properly using the vocabulary and terminology which are proper to international relations and interdisciplinary contexts, according to the language level in each case.

Specific objectives for 2019-20

- Acquiring a B2 language competence level, according to the Common European Reference Framework, in all skills.
- Applying the skills of written/spoken reception/production in areas and spheres of International Relations.
