Course context for academic year 2019-20

GEOLOGY of the first course of the Degree in Biology and Marine Sciences belongs to the group of common basic disciplines of the degrees in Sciences. Form together with Biology, Chemistry and Physics the group of the Sciences of Nature that tries to explain the physical world or Cosmos. It is understood, therefore, that future graduates have a basic knowledge in the disciplines in which biology itself is formally connected. On the other hand, since its origins, Biology and Geology have gone hand in hand with border areas such as Paleontology or Edafology itself, not forgetting that the transversality of the professional work of environmental biologists, places Geology among The important tools of their work.

The subject taught here pursues a modest objective, according to its dimension (6 credits). Firstly, to provide a minimum language in Geology, which allows the graduated future to understand with professionals with whom in many cases will coincide in multidisciplinary teams. Secondly, have the basic knowledge in the formal core of Geology (Earth History) to strengthen their training in the degree (History of Life). Finally, the subject aims to raise awareness, through knowledge, through the last topics of the program, in the intrinsic problem of resource exploitation, conservation of natural heritage and prevention against geological hazards.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2019-20

DEGREE IN BIOLOGY

- To know the properties of the geological materials and the processes that originate it.
- Know the evolution of our planet from its origin and the mechanical, physicochemical and biological events that have taken place in it and whose result is the Earth today.
- To value the knowledge that, on materials and geological processes, allows to explain relevant questions on the sustainability of the resources and the global changes that take place in the planet; And those related to daily activities related to resources, natural hazards and the environment.

DEGREE IN SEA SCIENCES
