Course context for academic year 2021-22

El objetivo fundamental de la asignatura es comprender y analizar la conexión que existe en el océano entre procesos físico-químicos y los biológicos. En esta asignatura se trata de analizar los cambios en patrones espaciales y temporales, así como el flujo de materia y energía, en las comunidades pelágicas que habitan los océanos, y comprender la relación a diferentes escalas con los forzamientos fisicoquímicos y climáticos, con el fin de entender los procesos que rigen la producción primaria y secundaria oceánica del fitoplancton y zooplancton. Por otra parte se estudia el necton marino y su relación con la complejidad y heterogeneidad del hábitat pelágico y bentónico. Se analizan las comunidades de peces y mamíferos marinos de diversos ambientes oceánicos, y se estudian las relaciones tróficas, los procesos migratorios y el estado de conservación de sus poblaciones. En la parte instrumental se estudian los métodos de muestreo más comunes en oceanografía biológica para las comunidades pelágicas y nectónicas, y se ejercita en la organización de una campaña oceanográfica y la comunicación en ciencia. Transversalmente se analizan impactos antrópicos sobre los ecosistemas marinos como es el cambio climático, la contaminación por plásticos o la eutrofización.

  • CE1 : Possess a basic understanding of molecular structure, genetics, cell organisation and the evolutionary processes of living beings.
  • CE13 : Understand basic sampling techniques for water column, seabed and associated organisms, as well as measurement techniques for structural and dynamic variables.
  • CE6 : Know and understand the essential facts, concepts, principles and theories related to marine sciences and their relationship with other sciences.
  • CE7 : Understand the structural and functional organisation of marine organisms and their biological diversity.
  • CE8 : Understand the basic principles of ecology, the structure and function of ecosystems, developing it for the marine and coastal environment.

 

Specific Competences:>>Ability

  • CE20 : Show knowledge and understanding of inductive and deductive methods, the elaboration of hypotheses and experimental design.
  • CE22 : Capacity to gather data (oceanographic, biological, sediment, logical, chemical, etc.), evaluate, process and interpret it as per the theories in use.
  • CE26 : Acquire the ability to design, process information, draft and execute projects related with marine and coastal environments.
  • CE30 : Be able to carry out standard sampling procedures related to research tasks in the sea and in the laboratory.
