Competencies and objectives

Course context for academic year 2024-25

This subject contributes to the professional profile of the Degree with the acquisition of knowledge and scientific-technical training for the exercise of the profession of Civil Engineer, and fundamentally of the specific competences focused on the theoretical and practical knowledge of the chemical, physical, mechanical and technological properties of the materials most used in construction.

"Construction Materials I" is a compulsory training subject to be taught in the third semester of the degree in Civil Engineering, therefore it starts from the basis that students have acquired a series of knowledge in the subjects of the first year: Chemical Foundations of Civil Engineering, Physical Foundations of Civil Engineering, Mechanics for Engineers, Geology applied to Civil Engineering and Mathematical Foundations of Engineering. Likewise, training acquired by the student will prepare him for the development of other subjects of the degree to be taught in the fourth semester and subsequent courses.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2024-25

- The student can relate the behavior of the materials with their nature and their manufacturing process.

- To know the properties and characteristics of the materials, so that this knowledge allows you to solve problems related to their use.

- To know how to use the materials.

- To know the procedures of conservation of the materials and the works with them carried out.

- To develop the necessary criteria to select the appropriate materials.

- To know the regulations governing basic materials.

- To develop the student's capacity for abstraction, so that he relates the concepts taught and can solve new problems related to the construction materials during professional practice.
