Course context for academic year 2023-24

The subject of «The Spanish Constitution. Rights, Freedoms and State Institutions» explains and analyses the Spanish constitutional system's bill of rights (rights and liberties of Chapter II of Title I), and principles on social and economic policy (Chapter III of Title I) and their guarantees, the constitutional bodies and the territorial organisation of the State at the Spanish Constitution. This discipline enable students to obtain a basic legal-constitutional knowledge about the functioning of the legislative, executive and judicial powers in a social and democratic State subject to the rule of law. Moreover, the students shall know the main Spanish institutions, the framework of fundamental rights and the constitutional mechanisms for their protection, and the regional decentralization, State of Autonomies. This subject contributes to the professional profile of the degree and to the development of specific and generic competences offering the knowledge of the basis of the entire legal system. The syllabus structures the subject within the basic knowledge connecting it with the other legal matters.

  • CE2 : Aconseguir la percepció del caràcter unitari de l'ordenament jurídic i de la necessària visió interdisciplinària dels problemes jurídics.
  • CE4 : Capacitat per la utilització de fonts jurídiques (legals, jurisprudencials i doctrinals).
  • CE6 : Capacitat de llegir i interpretar textos jurídics.
  • CE7 : Capacitat de redactar escrits jurídics.
  • CE9 : Adquisició d'una consciència crítica en l'anàlisi de l'ordenament jurídic i desenvolupament de la dialèctica jurídica.

Specific objectives 
The subject of «The Spanish Constitution. Rights, freedoms and State Institutions» has as targets to know and understand the system of rights and fundamental freedoms in the Spanish Constitution and institutions and constitutional bodies, as well as to know and understand the territorial and institutional organisation of the State. On this basis, students must learn to handle the basic categories of Constitutional Law.
