Esta materia ofrece a los alumnos una formación teórica y práctica en una de las variedades diáfasicas de la lengua española, el registro informal o coloquial. Aunque se analizarán muestras escritas, se estudiará preferentemente la variedad oral, en concreto, la conversación, manifestación prototípica de lo coloquial. A partir de la fundamentación teórica, se aplicarán las nociones aprendidas a muestras reales.
