The subject Medieval and Modern Latin Drama is part of the Classical Studies Itinerary, which is offered in 4th year to all the students of the Degrees in Philology. The Itinerary constitutes an approximation to classical literature and, especially, to Greek and Latin dramatic production at different times, paying special attention to the rich and complex connections between scene -show- and literature, Greek literature and Latin literature, and classical literature and other artistic manifestations. This subject, in particular, offers an overview of the dramatic production in the Latin language between the twelfth and eighteenth centuries in its literary and historical context: from the Visitatio sepulchri, the liturgical and school drama, the elegiac comedy, to Geta de Vital de Blois or Pamphilus, in the disputed origins of Latin (and European) drama in the Middle Ages; from the humanistic comedy and tragedy to the Jesuit drama, in the Modern Age, when the ancient Greco-Latin drama is recovered in its main paragon. Finally, an approach to the origin of the Latin Renaissance theater in the Crown of Aragon will be made from the work with the works Zaphyra and Galathea by Hercules Florus.

1. Know the development and evolution of medieval and modern Latin drama from the 12th to the 18th century, studying the genre in its historical and literary context.
2. Know the main characteristics of Latin dramatic production between the 12th and 18th centuries.
3. Acquire a clear overview of the formative role of these works in European culture and literature.
4. Make a commentary and philological analysis of Latin texts belonging to the works and authors studied.
5. Access and manage bibliographic resources, information sources and computer tools that serve as support for the analysis and comment of texts.
6. Assess the importance of medieval and modern Latin drama in the configuration of European culture and literature through Western educational systems.
