Course context for academic year 2019-20

The subject of International Organizations is a compulsory subject that is taught in the second semester of the second year of the Degree in International Relations. This subject is in close connection with the subject Public International Law, which is studied in the first semester of the second year of this Degree. In contemporary international society, knowledge and familiarity with the work of international organizations is increasingly necessary, especially for anyone connected with different public administrations. This does not include the possibility of working for any of these international organizations or for the diplomatic services of the State, its different administrations with external or EU projection. The terms of the peace agreement in Colombia, the sanctions against the Syrian regime, the financial rescue of some EU partners or the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals are some of the issues that are resolved within international organizations. It is therefore essential to know them, know how they work and what rules govern their performance.
