Course context for academic year 2022-23
The objective of the degree is to train social intervention professionals in Social Work intervention methodologies, with a broad understanding of social structures and processes, social change and human behavior, which enable them to: intervene in social contexts and institutions in which individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities live, assisting, dealing with conflicts, carrying out tasks of mediation, help, education, defense, animation and transforming said contexts, including political-social ones; participate in the formulation and evaluation of policies, services and social initiatives; contribute to active citizenship through "empowerment" and the guarantee of human and social rights; work on the prevention of social problems. Social Work is a profession and a discipline strongly linked to the context in which it develops in such a way that it is influenced by historical, political, social, economic and/or cultural variables. Thus, it is possible to find substantial variations both in the needs and in the Social Policies that respond to them and in the processes of creation and development of Social Work as a profession and as a discipline in the different continents or between countries of the same continent. Even in each country we can also find differences between or within regions In accordance with the foregoing and taking into account the general and specific competences that, according to the Degree Report, correspond to the B2 subject "Social Policies and Social Work", the subject “International Social Work, Social Services and Social Policy” contributes to the training of social workers by providing them with instruments for the comparative international analysis of Social Work and the contexts in which it is practiced. Likewise, it is useful for students who plan to participate in international mobility university programs and for international students who study at the University of Alicante.

General Competences (CG)
- CG1 : Capacity to work together with individuals, families, groups, organisations and communities to evaluate their needs and circumstances.
- CG2 : Analyse problem situations, plan, develop, execute, review and evaluate the practice of Social Work with individuals, families, groups, organisations, communities and other professionals.
- CG6 : Demonstrate professional competence when carrying out Social Work.
- CG7 : Capacity to contribute to the development of fundamental rights, equal opportunities for men and women, the principles of equal opportunities and universal accessibility for the disabled, as well as the values associated with a peaceful culture with democratic values.
General Competences acquired at University of Alicante (CGUA)
- CGUA1 : Foreign language skills. In accordance with said standard, foreign language skills are considered to be obtained by proving the necessary level. The University of Alicante considers it necessary to pass at least Level 1 of the European Reference Framework for modern languages and Level B2 is recommended. The minimum Level B1 is regarded as transitory and can be adjusted when seen fit. Levels must be accredited prior to registering the End of Degree Thesis.
- CGUA2 : Computer and information skills. Capacity to apply computer and information technologies in one's professional career.
- CGUA3 : Oral and written communication skills. Capacity to communicate ideas orally and in writing so that individuals, families, groups, communities and organisations can understand them.
Specific Competences (CE)
- CE12 : Design, implement and evaluate social intervention projects.
- CE25 : Contribute towards the promotion of best practices in Social Work by participating in the development and analysis of the policies implemented.
- CE3 : Evaluate possible needs and options to guide an intervention strategy.
- CE6 : Prepare, produce, implement and evaluate intervention plans with individuals, families, groups, organisations, communities and fellow professionals, negotiating the supply of services that need to be used and checking the effectiveness of intervention plans with those involved in order to adapt them to changing needs and circumstances.

* To evaluate the consequences and implications that different orientations in social policy have for Social Work, as well as the contributions of Social Work to the design, development and evaluation of social policies in the international sphere from a comparative perspective.
