EUROPEAN UNION LAW
The subject "Law of the European Union" is a compulsory subject that is taught in the first semester of the fourth year of the Degree in Law. It is in close connection with the compulsory subject of "Public International Law", which is taught in the second semester of the third year, and also with the optional subject "Introduction to International Relations" taught by the Public International Law and International Relations Area. Its formative purpose is the knowledge and analysis of the origin and evolution of the European integration process; the objectives, principles and values of the European Union, as well as its Institutions, legal system and its relation with internal systems, its jurisdictional system, the protection of fundamental rights and the citizenship status. This subject contributes to the professional profile of the degree and to the development of its specific and generic competences by offering the knowledge of the basis of the whole European legal order The knowledge acquired prepares the way for research, professional practice, diplomatic career or the access to different positions as public officials in the European Union. This learning also takes on essential character if it is aimed to further specialization, taking advantage of the new opportunities in the field of the expectations of a growing regional integration of a cross-border nature and the need for the internationalization of companies, public entities and all kinds of organizations.
