Course context for academic year 2026-27

Information Management is designed as the culmination of the core training in data storage and management techniques, serving as a natural continuation of the courses Fundamentals of Databases (first year) and Database Design (second year).

In this course, the challenge of information management is approached from the perspective of added value and its strategic impact on decision-making. Students will learn to analyze, model, and manage datasets aimed at providing solutions and proposals for real-world management problems, working both individually and through team projects. To achieve this, they will critically evaluate and select among various alternative storage models and information management technologies.

Methodologically, the course is structured around Project-Based Learning (PBL). The syllabus begins with the presentation of a practical and complex challenge; from that point forward, the conceptual and technical resources required for its successful resolution will be provided synchronously.

Finally, the skills and competences acquired in this subject will provide transversal and essential support for the remaining courses in the Information Systems specialization, where efficient data management forms an active and critical component of any development.

  • CESI2 : Capacity to determine the requirements for information and communications systems of an organisation, paying attention to security aspects and complying the regulations and legislation in force.
  • CESI3 : Capacity to participate actively in specifying, designing, implementing and maintaining information and communications systems.

 

Basic Competences

  • CB3 : Students must be able to gather and interpret relevant data (usually within their area of study) in order to make judgements that include reflection on relevant social, scientific or ethical issues.
