Course context for academic year 2026-27
The Advanced Software Specification Techniques (TAES) course is taught in the second semester of the third year of the Computer Engineering degree, within the Software Engineering track. It is a 6-credit course, with four hours of in-person instruction. Half of the credits are theoretical and the other half are practical.
TAES covers fundamental aspects of planning, specification, development, and presentation of software projects. The course is based on the premise that a software project of a certain complexity will have a greater chance of success if a proper preliminary analysis is carried out, the work is correctly planned, appropriate methodologies are applied, and the team members are able to collaborate in an organized and effective manner.
Furthermore, the course not only covers the development process but also subsequent or complementary aspects, such as product presentation, feasibility, security, and the guidelines to follow once the software is developed.
This subject is a natural continuation of Software Systems Analysis and Specification but is intrinsically related to other subjects of application development and database design.

Specific Competences (Specific Technology):>>Software Engineering
- CEIS1 : Capacity to develop, maintain and apply software systems and services that satisfy all user requirements and behave reliably and efficiently, are easy to develop and maintain and comply with quality regulations, applying the theories, principles, methods and practices of Software Engineering.
- CEIS2 : Capacity to evaluate the needs of clients and specify the software requirements to satisfy said needs, reconciling conflicting goals by finding acceptable compromises within the limitations of cost, time, the existence of already available systems and the organisations themselves.
- CEIS4 : Capacity to identify and analyse problems and design, develop, implement, verify and document software solutions on the basis of suitable knowledge of current, theories, models and techniques.
- CEIS5 : Capacity to identify, evaluate and manage any potential associated risks that could appear.
Basic Competences
- CB3 : Students must be able to gather and interpret relevant data (usually within their area of study) in order to make judgements that include reflection on relevant social, scientific or ethical issues.
