Competencies and objectives
Course context for academic year 2026-27
This course belongs to the "Physics" subject area of ¿¿the basic training module and is taught in the first semester of the second year. Its objective is to introduce Newtonian mechanics applied to rigid bodies, continuing and expanding upon the mechanics knowledge acquired in the first-year course, Physical Foundations of Engineering I.
The course aims to equip students with methods and strategies for solving problems in the kinematics and dynamics of rigid bodies, both in two and three dimensions, along with an introduction to mechanical vibrations. The knowledge imparted will allow students to understand and assimilate the concepts of these areas of mechanics as they relate to Robotics Engineering.
Students are assumed to have the knowledge acquired in the first-year courses, Physical Foundations of Engineering I and Foundations of Applied Mathematics I and II.
The course consists of various in-person and online activities. In-person activities include lectures and practical problem-solving and laboratory sessions. All activities will involve both individual and group work. The activities corresponding to the theory and practical problem classes will be carried out in the classroom, while the practical laboratory classes will be carried out in the computer room.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2026-27
- To acquire the necessary skills for basic training in rigid body mechanics, which all university graduates specializing in the technical field of robotics engineering should possess.
- To gain a general understanding of the fundamentals of rigid body kinematics and dynamics and mechanical vibrations, as well as their application to problem-solving.
- To acquire the ability to model and obtain the kinematic and dynamic properties of mechanical systems composed of rigid bodies.
- To acquire the ability to solve rigid body kinematics problems, applying the laws of velocity and acceleration fields, as well as rigid body dynamics problems, primarily applying the equations of dynamics.
