Course context for academic year 2025-26
The "Scientific Communication Models" course is offered as a transversal training activity within the Doctoral Programs at the University of Alicante, within the framework of the EHEA. Its design addresses the need to equip doctoral students with tools and competencies for disseminating research across various audiences, from specialized professionals to the general public. This course aims to raise awareness of the importance of communicating science in an accessible and rigorous manner, covering both the analysis and production of oral and written discourse, as well as the use of technological environments and graphic formats that facilitate scientific communication.

Competencias básicas
- CB11 : Systematic comprehension of a field of study and mastery of the skills and research methods related to said field. (The term "field" is replaced by "area" as from the application of Royal Decree 576/2023, of 4 July)
- CB12 : Ability to conceive, design or create, put into practice, and adopt a substantial research or creation process.
- CB13 : Ability to contribute to the expansion of knowledge barriers through original research.
- CB16 : Ability to foment scientific, technological, social, artistic or cultural advances within a knowledge-based society in academic and professional contexts.
- CB17 : Ability to promote Open Science and Citizen Science, in accordance with article 12 of Spanish Organic Law 2/2023, of 22 March, as means of contributing to the consideration of scientific knowledge as a common good. This can be accomplished by assessing transversal activities conducted by the doctoral student. The activities shall be related to different dimensions of Open Science and Citizen Science, as well as the training acquired in these disciplines in the form of micro-credentials or similar (from the application of Royal Decree 576/2023, of 4 July).

Develop communication skills in the scientific field
- Analyze and understand the characteristics of oral and written discourse to improve clarity and effectiveness in the transmission of research findings.
- Learn and apply strategies to adapt scientific communication to different audiences, from professionals to the general public.
Promote the use of digital tools and formats in scientific communication
- Identify and assess the importance of graphic formats, optimizing visual quality and space usage in data presentation.
- Explore the advantages of LaTeX as an alternative to conventional word processors for creating high-quality typographic documents.
Train for the development of professional presentations
- Design and structure presentations, slides, and posters that effectively summarize and highlight scientific findings.
- Develop oral communication skills, paying special attention to technical aspects and public speaking techniques.
