Course context for academic year 2025-26

Compulsory transversal training activity, common to all doctoral programmes and managed by the EIDUA, with the aim of teaching students the principles of ethics and integrity in research, understanding the aims and objectives of scientific research, the processes to be followed during the doctorate and understanding of the importance and mechanisms for the implementation of a gender perspective in research.

Competencias básicas

  • CB11 : Systematic comprehension of a field of study and mastery of the skills and research methods related to said field. (The term "field" is replaced by "area" as from the application of Royal Decree 576/2023, of 4 July)
  • CB12 : Ability to conceive, design or create, put into practice, and adopt a substantial research or creation process.
  • CB13 : Ability to contribute to the expansion of knowledge barriers through original research.
  • CB16 : Ability to foment scientific, technological, social, artistic or cultural advances within a knowledge-based society in academic and professional contexts.
  • CB17 : Ability to promote Open Science and Citizen Science, in accordance with article 12 of Spanish Organic Law 2/2023, of 22 March, as means of contributing to the consideration of scientific knowledge as a common good. This can be accomplished by assessing transversal activities conducted by the doctoral student. The activities shall be related to different dimensions of Open Science and Citizen Science, as well as the training acquired in these disciplines in the form of micro-credentials or similar (from the application of Royal Decree 576/2023, of 4 July).
  • CB6 : Poseer y comprender conocimientos que aporten una base u oportunidad de ser originales en el desarrollo y/o aplicación de ideas, a menudo en un contexto de investigación.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2025-26

- To learn about the evolution of the concept of research ethics and research ethics committees.
- Become familiar with the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Alacant (CEI-UA) and the Code of Good Research Practice.
- To reflect on the implications of carrying out a doctoral thesis.
- Define what a doctoral thesis is.
- Review the processes during the doctoral programme. Write a research plan.
- Know how to implement a gender perspective in research.
