Course context for academic year 2025-26
Virtual training activity designed to develop basic transversal competences in information management and retrieval applied to the fields of knowledge. This activity will enable the recognition of an information need, as well as obtaining, evaluating, using and communicating this information effectively. This includes both information in conventional formats and that presented in electronic format, ensuring its appropriate use according to the problem posed.

Competencias básicas
- CB11 : Systematic comprehension of a field of study and mastery of the skills and research methods related to said field. (The term "field" is replaced by "area" as from the application of Royal Decree 576/2023, of 4 July)
- CB12 : Ability to conceive, design or create, put into practice, and adopt a substantial research or creation process.
- CB13 : Ability to contribute to the expansion of knowledge barriers through original research.
- CB16 : Ability to foment scientific, technological, social, artistic or cultural advances within a knowledge-based society in academic and professional contexts.
- CB17 : Ability to promote Open Science and Citizen Science, in accordance with article 12 of Spanish Organic Law 2/2023, of 22 March, as means of contributing to the consideration of scientific knowledge as a common good. This can be accomplished by assessing transversal activities conducted by the doctoral student. The activities shall be related to different dimensions of Open Science and Citizen Science, as well as the training acquired in these disciplines in the form of micro-credentials or similar (from the application of Royal Decree 576/2023, of 4 July).

- Know the general principles and stages of an information search and learn search techniques.
- Identify the sources of information and resources subscribed by the University in the scientific discipline.
- Know the Document Access Service (Interlibrary Loan).
- Correctly prepare bibliographic citations for different types of documents, following a standardised system.
- Understand the basic principles of intellectual property and acquire notions of licences for use, with an in-depth study of Creative Commons licences.
- Know the functions and characteristics of bibliographic managers.
- Identify the signs of quality in books and scientific journals and learn about their main tools.
- To learn how to choose the most appropriate author signature and correctly indicate institutional affiliation.
- Understand the differences between traditional and open access publishing systems.
- Use tools to keep up to date with scientific information.
