La asignatura Historia de la América Latina Contemporánea ofrece un marco analítico y crítico indispensable para comprender las dinámicas actuales de la región desde una perspectiva histórica integral. En un máster centrado en el estudio de los fenómenos sociales, políticos y económicos contemporáneos, el conocimiento histórico no solo proporciona el contexto necesario, sino que permite identificar patrones de larga duración, rupturas significativas y continuidades estructurales que explican los desafíos y contradicciones del presente.

Aborda la evolución histórica de América Latina desde las independencias del siglo XIX hasta la actualidad, con especial atención a los procesos de conformación estatal, las transformaciones económicas, las luchas sociales, los modelos de desarrollo, las dictaduras y transiciones democráticas, así como la proyección geopolítica de la región. El análisis se realiza desde una perspectiva crítica y transnacional, incorporando las interacciones con el sistema internacional, las relaciones con Estados Unidos y Europa, y los procesos de integración y desintegración regional.

El enfoque histórico permite comprender fenómenos como la persistencia de desigualdades estructurales, el papel de los movimientos sociales, la emergencia de gobiernos de signo progresista o conservador, y los dilemas del desarrollo en contextos de globalización. Así, la asignatura contribuye a dotar de herramientas teóricas y metodológicas para el análisis interdisciplinar de América Latina, en diálogo constante con la sociología, la ciencia política y la economía.

  • CE14 : Compare the main historical events that marked the development of the contemporary and current period of Latin America and his integration in the international relations.
  • CE3 : Apply methodological procedures typical of scientific research to the study of Latin America's past.
  • CE5 : Analyse the basic shots of the evolution of the diverse socioeconomic politics applied in Latin America in relation with the forming of the institutional structures.
  • CE8 : Research the historical background of the political and administrative systems of the various states in Latin America, with a particular focus on their processes of political transition, modernisation and post-conflict.
  • CG2 : Reflect upon and systematically analyse the political, economic and social realities of Latin America, with a view to understanding how the situation in the region has evolved.
  • CG3 : Analyse historical phenomena and the basic concepts of the historical process in Latin America in order to understand the social, economic and political processes and the socio-political relationships in Latin America across different historical periods.
  • CT1 : Carry out professional practice with full respect for fundamental rights and equality among men and women, the principles of equal opportunities, non-discrimination and universal accessibility for all, as well as the values inherent in a culture of peace.
  • CT2 : The ability to adapt to new online and blended learning environments.
