Course context for academic year 2025-26
In this subject we focus on the fundamentals of oral comprehension and expression in English as a second and/or foreign language. We explore current tendencies and techniques for planning, evaluating and doing research on the teaching and learning of oral communication.

- CE10 : Ability to select and plan soundly-based contents, activities, materials and assessment techniques for the teaching/learning of Spanish/English as an L2/FL on the levels making up the language and in relation to different skills, taking into account the specific problems posed and the diversity of teaching contexts.
Learning outcomes (Training objectives)
- Knowledge of instrumental concepts in the domains that constitute the subject.
- Knowledge of specific aspects and problems of the skills that make up the communicative competence of English, as well as of its linguistic bases, with a view to teaching it as a second or foreign language.
- Knowledge of key perspectives for research on the subject.
- Knowledge of materials, strategies, assessment tools, as well as their linguistic foundations, with a view to teaching those skills that make up the communicative competence of English as a second or foreign language.
- Knowledge of sources of information and specialized bibliography of reference in linguistics applied to the teaching of oral comprehension and expression, as well as written comprehension and expression, of English as a second or foreign language.
- Application of the knowledge acquired in case study, problem solving and materials’ analysis activities, in techniques and strategies and to the design of activities.
- Analytical and comprehensive use of the different sources of information and the reference bibliography.
- Adequate use of terms and conceptual tools specific to the subject.
- Application of the knowledge acquired to the accomplishment of academic works.
- Responsibility in individual tasks.

To know how to integrate listening comprehension and oral expression competences within the teaching of English as an L2/FL
To understand the relationship between listening comprehension and oral expression with the linguistic levels and their implied discursive aspects.
To become aware of and to be able to analyze the specific problems encountered in the teaching of oral comprehension and expression in EFL/ESL.
To learn about, to analyze and to evaluate materials used for EFL/ESL oral comprehension and expression.
To learn about and appreciate the methodologies used to teach EFL/ESL oral comprehension and expression.
To become aware of specific methods and tools for the evaluation EFL/ESL oral comprehension and expression.
To become familiar with specialized bibliography and resources for learning (materials, on-line sources, etc.)
To learn about research perspectives and possibilities with regard to the discursive competence of EFL/ESL oral comprehension and expression.
To be able to use the terminology and conceptual tools adequately to analyze the communicative competence in the planning of listening comprehension and oral expression activities for the teaching of EFL/ESL.
To be able to relate the communicative competence with the linguistic levels and the implied discursive aspects in planning the teaching of oral comprehension and expression for EFL/ESL.
