Course context for academic year 2024-25

The subject "Fundamentals of Psychology Applied to the Built Environment" focuses on the intersection between psychology and architecture, exploring how built environments influence human behavior and well-being. Throughout the course, several key concepts essential to understanding this relationship will be addressed.

First, Environmental Psychology examines how different elements of the physical environment, such as light, color, space, and design, can affect our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. Students will learn to identify and analyze these factors in order to design spaces that promote well-being and productivity.

Secondly, Cognitive Biases, which are mental shortcuts that influence how we perceive and respond to our environment, will be studied. Understanding these biases is crucial for designing spaces that mitigate their negative effects and encourage positive decisions and behaviors.

Additionally, Personas will be explored, helping to understand how different groups of individuals interact with their environment. This knowledge is fundamental to creating inclusive spaces that meet the needs of diverse populations, including children, adults, the elderly, and people with disabilities.

Finally, Personal Motivations in Different Life Stages will be analyzed, providing insight into how needs and desires change throughout the life cycle. This will enable students to design spaces that support development and well-being at all stages of life.

Through this subject, students will gain a deep understanding of how to apply psychological principles to improve the quality of built environments, creating spaces that are not only functional but also enriching and healthy for their occupants.
