Course context for academic year 2024-25

This is the first Econometrics course of the BSc in Economics and it is programmed for the second semester of the second year. Students take previously two courses in Statistics: Statistics I and Statistics II, where they study descriptive statistics, probability and inference. Econometrics I covers the linear regression model for cross section data. The first unit studies the simple linear regression model. Units 2 and 3 cover multiple regression analysis: Estimation and inference under normality. Unit 4 analyses the large sample properties of OLS and asymptotic inference. Qualitative factors in the linear model are studied in unit 5. Finally unit 6 studies the linear model with heteroscedastic errors. The students continue studying econometrics in the third year where they take Econometrics II.
