Competencies and objectives
Course context for academic year 2024-25
The subject of River Engineering is in the 2nd term of the 3rd year of the Degree of Civil Engineering.
Its purpose is to enable and train students in the techniques of planning, design, construction of environmental restorations of river beds. The subject is developed through theoretical classes, practical classes and through computer applications specific to the subject.
For the understanding of the subject, a solid previous training in Hydraulics, Hydrology, Construction Materials, Soil Mechanics, Resistance of Materials and Calculation of Structures is required.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2024-25
The main objective is to make the basic concepts related to river engineering understable for the students. Other general goals are: to provide the basics of the methods and techniques in river engineering: river morphology and hydraulics, channel protection, channeling, etc.. So as to develop the student's capabilities in planning and design processes in river systems.
Specific objectives to be achieved are:
- Understanding the basic concepts of river dynamics and engineering.
- Planning, design and construction of protection against avenues, defense margins and channeling.
- Learning about interference in the river environment and its environment.
- Comprehension of the calculation of all the aforementioned, as well as the fundamentals, methodology and application of specific software.
- Analysis of the results and decision making.
