Course context for academic year 2024-25

The subject Fundamentals of Information Technology is a main content of the Degree in Civil Engineering since it provides basic knowledge to work with spreadsheets, as well as a basic introduction to programming. The main goal of this subject is becoming a powerful tool to help students to solve all sort of problems, especially those that they will face in other subjects of the Degree.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2024-25

Providing our Civil Engineers the basic concepts and principles of programming. This will be carried out using a specific high-level language such as Visual Basic for Applications within Excel spreadsheet. This programming language is powerful, sophisticated and simple at the same time, allowing to develop programs of any kind, from solving complex mathematical problems to construction calculations.
Empowering them with the knowledge and skills to use the computer applications needed in their daily tasks, and emphasizing the use of new technologies, technics and tools, such as Internet, as a way to search and verify scientific and technological information
