Se trata de una asignatura de carácter transversal que presenta la lengua griega como el instrumento de cultura en el que se ha forjado el pensamiento racional así como las bases de la mayoría de las disciplinas científicas, técnicas y humanísticas, entre ellas la propia Filología. A tal fin, se el objetivo de la misma consiste en dotar al alumno de los rudimentos imprescindibles para acceder a los textos de dificultad media en su lengua original y situarlos en el contexto histórico social correspondiente.
La asignatura consiste en la descripción y estudio de la lengua griega (historia de la lengua, fonética, morfología, sintaxis y léxico griegos, dialectología griega y métrica) y la práctica de la traducción y comentario de textos, necesarios para reconocer su papel como instrumento especialmente relevante en la transmisión de la cultura. Se prestará especial atención al estudio del origen de los dialectos griegos, especialmente el micénico y el jónico-ático, y su estrecha relación con el origen de los diferentes géneros literarios, tanto en prosa como en verso: épica, lírica, drama, historiografía, filosofía, retórica, tratado científico, epistolografía, novela, Nuevo Testamento, en su contexto histórico y social.

- CE12 : Understand a second language of those proposed in the degree course.
- CE13 : Understand and analyse the main stages, movements, authors and works of literature in a second language of those proposed in the degree course.
- CE5 : Capacity to interpret, produce and develop academic descriptions and arguments and/or technical reports related to the professional contexts that can be accessed with the degree qualification.
Transversal Competences
- CGUA1 : Be able to communicate in a foreign language other than Arabic in one's discipline.
- CGUA2 : Be able to use basic ICT tools at user level.
- CGUA3 : Be able to express oneself correctly in one of the two official languages of the Region of Valencia, in the context of one's discipline.
