Course context for academic year 2024-25
- This subject deals specifically with the professional profile of Intercultural Mediator contemplated in the Syllabus. In this sense, the course aims to help the student to integrate the learning achieved in previous subjects and apply them to situations of mediation action, putting into practice the concepts and tools of mediation in communicative contexts of cultural diversity.
- In addition, the course aims, through the incorporation of the SDGs:
- Generate in university students an awareness of global citizenship.
- Promote students' knowledge and internalisation of the SDGs in order to acquire a broader vision of reality, relating the local to the global.
- Encourage dialogic learning and common spaces of understanding and collaboration in the classroom.

DEGREE IN ARABIC & ISLAMIC STUDIES
General Competences (CG)

Specific Competences (CE)
- CE1 : Understand the key theories of the disciplines associated with Arab and Islamic Studies and apply them in practice to be able to operate appropriately in the different professional profiles accessible through the degree qualification or undertake further studies with a high level of autonomy.
- CE11 : Interpret the social and political history of the Arab world to understand and interpret the role of social and political phenomena in the construction of classical and contemporary thinking.
- CE2 : Communicate in standard Arabic, orally and in writing, so as to interact satisfactorily in the academic and professional contexts that can be accessed with the degree qualification.
- CE3 : Understand the specific linguistic characteristics of Arabic to use it correctly and apply said characteristics to the analysis, understanding, production and adaptation of Arabic in its oral and written forms, as well as linguistic contrast and translation.
- CE5 : Capacity to interpret, produce and develop academic descriptions and arguments and/or technical reports related to the professional contexts that can be accessed with the degree qualification.
- CE9 : Analyse and interpret historical, geographical, religious and scientific texts and discourses in Arabic, using appropriate techniques for analysis.
Transversal Competences
- CGUA2 : Be able to use basic ICT tools at user level.
- CGUA3 : Be able to express oneself correctly in one of the two official languages of the Region of Valencia, in the context of one's discipline.
DEGREE IN CATALAN STUDIES
General Competences (CG)
- CG1 : Capacity to master the key theories, perspectives and conceptualisations for constructing the theoretical framework of linguistic and literary disciplines applied to Catalan language and literature as an expert on the subject and in different professional profiles.
- CG2 : Capacity to understand the role of language in the construction of human beings as active members of a linguistic and cultural community and relate this to the function of individuals in society.
- CG3 : Capacity to develop reading, analysis and synthesis techniques.
- CG4 : Capacity to manage and use the resources provided by the information and communications technologies and apply those to the language and literature industries.
- CG5 : Ability to understand the main stages, movements, writers and works of the literature of the second language.
General Competences acquired at University of Alicante (CGUA)
- CGUA2 : Be able to use basic ICT tools at user level.
- CGUA3 : Ability to communicate effectively and have linguistic understanding of one of the two official languages of the Region of Valencia (Spanish or Catalan) in their discipline.
Specific Competences (CE)
- CE1 : Capacity to communicate in the Catalan language in communicative situations (oral and written), allowing fluid communication in the professional and academic areas in which the student will be working in the future, taking into account his/her knowledge of the historical, social, cultural and artistic reality of his/her context.
- CE10 : Capacity to use the pertinent resources and materials for self-learning (bibliographies, dictionaries, reference works, terminological works, tutorials, new technologies) and transmit the information in the Catalan language.
- CE11 : Be able to develop reading, analysis and synthesis techniques, formulate working hypotheses, demonstrate them with arguments and reach conclusions, as well as recognise and ensure the textual coherence (structure of the text, organisation of ideas, progression of information, use of keywords), to explain and argue any subject related to Catalan language and literature, thus achieving the role of expert, transmitter and adviser regarding the knowledge acquired.
- CE2 : Capacity to understand morphological, syntactic, phonetic and lexico-semantic characteristics to use, transmit and apply knowledge to the analysis, comprehension and production of Catalan in oral and written forms.
- CE3 : Capacity to understand the pragmatic, textual and discursive characteristics of the Catalan language to use, transmit and apply knowledge to the analysis, comprehension and production of Catalan in oral and written forms.

- CP19 : Capacity to identify currents of literary criticism, their categories, concepts and anomenclature, as a basic tool for developing the ability to analyse and criticise text (literary, cinematographic, advertising, etc.), as regards the creative manifestation and reflection of the sociocultural context.
- CP20 : Capacity to use the pertinent materials and resources: bibliographic repertories, dictionaries, works of reference, critical editions, translations and ICTs as an independent learner able to control one's own learning process and make the corresponding independent progress.

- To understand the legal keys and the fundamental social and cultural codes in relation to immigrants of Arab and/or Muslim origin in Spain.

- Develop the ability to mediate using Arabic and Spanish/Valencian, and a possible second foreign language.

- Acquire the techniques, tools and procedures for negotiation and mediation in cultural conflicts.
- Access to the Register of Mediators when the requirements are met.

- Understand migration in general and, in particular, migration of North African, Arab and/or Muslim origin.
- To understand the legal keys and the fundamental social and cultural codes in relation to immigrants, especially those of Arab and/or Muslim origin in Spain.
- Develop the student's ability to interact in a multicultural context, especially Arab-Islamic and Spanish.
- To develop the mediating competence by making use of communication and intercultural competence, through Arabic and Spanish/Valencian, and a possible second foreign language.
- Understand and make understandable the necessary information on procedures and protocols established in the different contexts in which the mediator acts.
- Know the modalities of intercultural mediation (preventive, rehabilitative and transformative).
