La familia es una institución social estructurada que desarrolla estrategias de actuación, por lo que al mismo tiempo que busca la seguridad y la estabilidad de sus componentes está sujeta a profundos cambios sociales y culturales y afectada por el riesgo y la incertidumbre contemporánea. De ahí que la familia se constituya como un referente-productor fundamental de la actual sociedad de la individualización. Finalmente, la familia constituye la célula básica de la sociedad y la familia negociadora representa un vector básico de democratización social. Por todo ello, el análisis de la familia representa para el/la futuro/a sociólogo/a un ejercicio imprescindible.
