Competencies and objectives
Course context for academic year 2024-25
Construction in architecture or engineering is the art or technique of constructing buildings, infrastructures, etc. The building process is divided into different phases or trades: demolitions, earthworks, foundations, structure, enclosures, roofs, partitions, etc.
This subject includes the first constructions that are carried out once the resistant elements (foundations and structure) have been executed. Such as the construction of the building envelope or enclosures: facades and roofs.
This will cover key elements when working in the professional field, whatever the future dedication of the student (construction manager, project management, prevention technician, commercial, researcher, worker, etc.), as well as professional ethics.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Acquire construction criteria for the development of professional practice in the field of construction of non-structural systems and elements.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
- Reasoning the use of different constructive solutions, depending on the type of building, means, materials, etc. Live process, which changes according to the demands of society.
- To develop a critical and comparative sense.
- Use of technical language and graphic expression of construction elements (details).
- To expand knowledge of the constructive elements and components of the building.
- Develop a sense of observation.
- Use appropriate constructive solutions in accordance with current regulations.
- To forget stereotyped learning.
- Acquire criteria for the use of traditional or new materials, as appropriate.
- To know the needs of physical and human resources.
- To acquire economic criteria.
- To know the existing documentary sources.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE WORK
The general objective that the Teaching Unit intends to achieve through this coursework is to EXPOSE, KNOW AND SHARE CONSTRUCTIVE SOLUTIONS through new technologies and graphic tradition.
Complementing with secondary objectives such as:
- To develop the CAPACITY of INTERPRETATION of graphic documentation, which contains an execution project.
- To foment the SENSE OF OBSERVATION, as well as the critical development and of comparison; which must be reflected in the graphical representation of the constructive elements as well as the justification of the same ones.
- To promote the DISCUSSION, among the students, of the different solutions that can have a same constructive detail, favoring the interaction of the participants throughout the course, by means of the partial deliveries and exhibition of the same ones.
- To generate the proper space for the exchange of IDEAS, that allow to face the EDUCATIONAL, PEDAGOGICAL and PROFESSIONAL challenges of this moment and this reality, from an inclusive point of view that contemplates the technological advances.
- To promote among students the integration of construction with DIGITAL novelties.
