Course context for academic year 2024-25

The general objective of the course is that students understand and know the usefulness of statistics and demography in public health research. To acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes in order to create, refine, manage, analyze and interpret results from public health research data.

General Competences (CG)

  • CG1 : Adquirir la capacitat per a aplicar els coneixements a la resolució dels problemes i necessitats de salut de la població.
  • CG2 : Adquirir la capacitat de cerca documental, anàlisi i síntesi de la informació, i de redacció dels informes necessaris per a l'exercici de les funcions de salut pública.
  • CG3 : Adquirir l'habilitat per a desenvolupar i mantenir aprenentatge autònom i formació contínua.
  • CG4 : Tenir la capacitat de treballar en equip i amb la població en la resolució de problemes de salut de la comunitat.
  • CG5 : Saber formular una hipòtesi i dissenyar i desenvolupar un projecte de recerca en salut pública.
  • CG6 : Tenir l'habilitat de comunicar, oralment i per escrit, les conclusions a públics especialitzats i no especialitzats.

 

Specific Competences (CE)

  • CE14 : Analitzar les dades d'estudis poblacionals en salut pública.
  • CE16 : Construir i interpretar els diversos indicadors demogràfics, a partir de les fonts de dades disponibles i el paper dels factors demogràfics en les dinàmiques de salut.
  • CE3 : Aplicar els fonaments dels mètodes estadístics, epidemiològics i qualitatius aplicats a problemes i necessitats de salut.
  • CE7 : Planificar un estudi aplicant els fonaments i mètodes de la recerca en salut pública.

• Contextualize and define statistics in the field of public health.
• Recognize the importance of statistics and demography in the field of public health.
• Develop communication skills.
• Learn to work in multidisciplinary teams..
• Identify the type of variables and the specific type of analysis to achieve the objectives of a research project in the field of public health
• To provide skills and abilities for the creation of databases and management of information collected in research projects in the field of public health.
• To develop the ability to use scientific methods and apply statistical and demographic analysis techniques in order to draw conclusions that facilitate decision making.
• Ability to analyze and synthesize the information resulting from statistical and demographic analyses, drawing the most relevant and pertinent conclusions.
• Awaken critical reasoning to assess the most appropriate analysis for each situation and correctly interpret the results of statistical and demographic analysis, and present them in a clear, concise and logical manner.
• To learn to work autonomously and responsibly in order to be able to satisfactorily respond to the exercises presented.
• Learn to manage time in order to deliver the exercises on time.
• Acquire skills in the use of statistical packages.
• Construct and interpret the different demographic indicators from the available sources of information.
• Interpret demographic factors influencing health dynamics.
• Develop population studies for public health monitoring and planning.
