Competencies and objectives
Course context for academic year 2020-21
Along Graduate courses, the human eye was characterized by geometrical optics approach. Now, for enlarging this approach by physical optics, the human eye will be presented as a shift-invariant linear system. The Optical Transfer Function (OTF) and the factors influencing on the final quality of retinal image will be introduced. In this context the performance of diffractive ophthalmic elements and analysis of their parameters for image quality will be exhaustively studied.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2020-21
1. Acquisition of skills necessary to characterize fully the human visual system from psychophysical and optical approaches as perceptual imaging system and its problems derived with perceptual and optical retinal image quality.
2. Knowing of fundamentals and applied methods in the development of advanced geometrical optics models of theoretical eye and its relationship of optical quality of retinal image.
3. Knowing the methodological fundamentals and interpreting the results from adaptative optics techniques and new non-invasive optical instrumentation applied on human eye.
4. Solving the diagnosis and needs of optical compensation with advanced and conventional ophthalmic elements (intraocular lenses).
5. Promoting work team, critical analysis in findings and ability for discussing and exposition of them.
