Course context for academic year 2018-19
The study of linguistics applied to the teaching of English as a second language or foreign language. This subject seeks to apply the concepts of linguistics in a practical way to the problems of the classroom, thus providing students with a preparation to be able to teach the language with a clear idea of ¿¿the methodologies and goals that will lead to greater effectiveness in the classroom.

- To introduce students to the various traditions of linguistics applied to the teaching of English as a foreign language;
- To inculcate an understanding of the classroom as a communicative situation;
- To emphasize the importance of using English as means of communication in the EFL classroom;
- To help students relate linguistic, discourse analytic and sociolinguistic concepts to teaching objectives and teaching activities;
- To provide structured information and practice of teaching techniques that enhance pupils´ communicative skills and expand their syntactic and lexical repertoire;
- To guide students through selected readings on the subject.
- Practice and point out the importance of using English in the language classroom.
