Course context for academic year 2018-19
Preliminary recommended subjects: Signals and Systems, Communication Theory, Fundamentals of engineering optics.
Transmission media are a fundamental part of telecommunication systems since they ensure the correct transmission of information between two faraway points. The knowledge of the existing transmission media, their characteristics and working mode are a discipline of interest for the future graduate student in Telecommunication Engineering.

UA Basic Transversal Competences
- CT10 : Capacitat d'afrontar, projectar i resoldre problemes reals demanats per la societat en l'àmbit de l'enginyeria.
- CT11 : Capacitat d'aprendre i aplicar, de manera autònoma i interdisciplinària, nous conceptes i mètodes.
- CT12 : Capacitat d'assimilar l'evolució contínua de la tecnologia en l'àmbit de desenvolupament professional i adaptar-s'hi.

Basic Transversal Competences
- CT1 : Que els estudiants hagen demostrat posseir i comprendre coneixements en un àrea d'estudi que parteix de la base de l'educació secundària general, i se sol trobar a un nivell que, si bé es recolza en llibres de text avançats, inclou també alguns aspectes que impliquen coneixements procedents de l'avantguarda del seu camp d'estudi.
- CT2 : Que els estudiants sàpien aplicar els seus coneixements al seu treball o vocació d'una forma professional i posseïsquen les competències que solen demostrar-se per mitjà de l'elaboració i defensa d'arguments i la resolució de problemes dins de la seua àrea d'estudi.
- CT3 : Que els estudiants tinguen la capacitat de reunir i interpretar dades rellevants (normalment dins de la seua àrea d'estudi) per a emetre judicis que incloguen una reflexió sobre temes rellevants d'índole social, científica o ètica.
- CT4 : Que els estudiants puguen transmetre informació, idees, problemes i solucions a un públic tant especialitzat com no especialitzat.

- C1 : Capacitat per a aprendre de manera autònoma nous coneixements i tècniques adequats per a la concepció, el desenvolupament o l'explotació de sistemes i serveis de telecomunicació.
- C4 : Capacitat d'analitzar i especificar els paràmetres fonamentals d'un sistema de comunicacions.
- C8 : Capacitat per a comprendre els mecanismes de propagació i transmissió d'ones electromagnètiques i acústiques, i els seus corresponents dispositius emissors i receptors.

- To understand the existing transmission media, the advantages and disadvantages which are presented by each one of them.
- To study the problematic of the noise in radio communication systems as bounding factor.
- To understand and to analyze the signal propagation in ideal transmission lines both in time and frequency domain.
- To know the different degradations that appear in real transmission lines, to understand and characterize them in specific lines.
- To know the most used guiding transmission systems, the advantages and disadvantages that are presented by each of them, and their behavior inside a communication system.
- To analyze antennas as a radio communication system element, to know and understand his parameters as transmitting and receiver antenna.
- To know the most used types of antennas and to understand their more significant features.
