Course context for academic year 2016-17
Marine Biotechnology will join other topics to ensure the acquisition by students of basic skills in degree of Marine Sciences. This topic/course is a basic training for graduates in Marine Sciences on the application of biotechnological tools for the analysis and management of the marine and coastal environments and for the development and practical use of the organisms from such environments
DURING THIS ACADEMIC COURSE 25% OF MARINE BIOTECHNOLOGY TEHORY WILL BE TAUGHT IN ENGLISH, TO HELP STUDENTS MEET THEIR LANGUAGE KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT

Specific Competences:>>Theoretical
- CE1 : Posseir coneixements bàsics de l'estructura molecular, genètica, organització cel·lular, processos evolutius dels éssers vius.
- CE15 : Conèixer les tècniques bàsiques de l'economia de mercat aplicada als recursos marins
- CE6 : Conèixer i comprendre els fets essencials, conceptes, principis i teories relacionades amb les ciències marines, i la seua relació amb altres ciències.
- CE7 : Conèixer l'organització estructural i funcional dels organismes marins, i també comprendre la seua diversitat biològica.
- CE8 : Conèixer els principis fonamentals de l'ecologia, l'estructura i la funció dels ecosistemes, i desenvolupar-la per a l'ambient marí i costaner.
Specific Competences:>>Ability
- CE21 : Utilitzar la informació i documentació necessària en la separació, identificació i catalogació d'organismes marins.
- CE24 : Capacitació per a reconèixer, avaluar i gestionar recursos marins de naturalesa diversa.
- CE29 : Comprendre el funcionament d'empreses vinculades a l'ambient marí, reconèixer problemes específics i proposar solucions.
- CE36 : Habilitat per a la interacció professional amb sectors socials, les percepcions dels quals es puguen incorporar a la millora dels estudis o activitats que es volen dur a terme.

- To Know the marine organisms of interest in biotechnology, their basic functions and role in the ecosystem.
- To Acquire the ability to analyze and determine those marine organisms that may be useful in biotechnology.
- To Know and to apply biotechnology methodologies to the marine environment.
- To Acquire knowledge on the marine biotech companies and the legal aspects of marine biotech.
