Esta asignatura es la primera asignatura en la secuencia de Macroeconomía; tiene su continuación en la asignatura Macroeconomía Intermedia del primer semestre de segundo curso. Se encuadra dentro de la materia Análisis Económico.
El objetivo de esta asignatura es proporcionar al estudiante los conocimientos básicos, tanto a nivel teórico como empírico, para comprender y analizar los problemas económicos a nivel agregado. Además, enseña al estudiante a utilizar el razonamiento analítico para plantear problemas económicos y resolverlos.
