Conocimiento del ciclo integral del agua, su ocurrencia, distribución y circulación del agua en la atmósfera, así como el conocimiento de todos los procesos que tienen que ver con el agua, tanto de manera superficial como subterránea. También se trata de cuantificar determinados fenómenos como la evaporación, precipitación, volumen de agua por escorrentía, caudales de avenida etc.
