  • CG2:Manage the new building technologies and take part in building quality management processes, carry out energy efficiency analyses, evaluations and certifications, as well as studies of the sustainability of buildings.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION CRITERIA 

 

According to the Regulations of the University of Alicante, the following requirements must be complied to have access to official taught Master’s degrees:

  1. To be in possession of a SPANISH OFFICIAL GRADUATE DEGREE CERTIFICATE or other issued by an institution of higher education  within the EHEA (European Higher Education) that enables the holder to have access  to Master’s degrees in the issuing.
  2. To be in possession of an officially approved  FOREIGN HIGHER EDUCATION DEGREE CERTIFICATE that had been recognised as equal to the degree that allows access to the requested studies.
  3. To be in possession of a UNIVERSITY DEGREE CERTIFICATE obtained in a University or Higher Education Institution of COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE EHEA, without the prior approval of their studies. In this case, the following should be considered:
  • Non- recognised degree certificates shall require a technical report showing an equivalence statement issued by the University of Alicante (ContinUA – Continuing Education Centre), for which the corresponding fee should be paid.
  • Access through this way does under no circumstances imply prior official approval of the holder’s degree certificate, nor its recognition for purposes other than studying a master's degree.

 

ADMISSION AND ASSESSMENT CRITERIA 

 

1.     Admission Profile

Given the limited number of places available, preference criteria will be applied in order to identify those applicants who wish to develop a research career in construction management, whilst the remaining places will be assigned to students interested in professionalisation and specialisation in the construction sector.  To this end, and in accordance with the established  preference criteria,  applicants should already possess certain specific skills and be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Motivation and interest in the world of construction management.
  • An interest in information structures, management, coordination, assessment, control and finance in all aspects of the property management sector.
  • The capacity for analysis, synthesis, abstraction and articulation of the various problems arising in this field.  Consequently, applicants should have an adequate understanding of the variables and knowledge related to construction management.
  • Initiative and leadership as regards decision-making in the field of construction management research.
  • The ability to manage, monitor and supervise construction management research teams. 
  • A dynamic approach to problem-solving in related fields.

 

2.     Assessment criteria

Applicants’ academic record will be assessed.  Applicants who can demonstrate a professional or research focus in Construction Management will be given preference.  For other applicants, particular credit will be given for subjects included in their academic record related to Health and Safety, Organisation, Planning and Supervision of Works, Quality Control, Measuring, Budgets and Valuation, the Construction Project Office, Economics and Construction.  Following an assessment of the academic record, applicants’ curriculum vitae will be assessed.  Where necessary, applicants will be interviewed in order to clarify questions related to their achievements.

In the case of applicants with special educational needs arising from disability, details of the support and resources required should be included.

Given the foregoing requirements and the limited number of places available, applicants should provide documentation regarding:

  1. The university degree qualifying them for admission to the course (preference will be given to those degrees with content or specialisation most closely related to Construction Management).
  2. Curriculum vitae and academic record.
  3. Reference letters provided by two university teaching staff or renowned researchers in the field of Construction Management.
  4. Personal interview.
  5. Research, teaching or professional experience, which will be given preference in the order shown, as will a good command of Spanish, Valencian and English.

Focused on area-specific professionalisation, training in research and an introduction to doctorate studies in Construction Management.  An advanced, specific training in Construction Management is offered, enabling students to improve their specific skills in the professional field of Architectural Technology.

Professional Profile 

 

Professions for which the degree qualifies its holder

The course contents do not assume professional skills as presently defined in the Organic Law on Education 1 for Architectural Technology. Contents are focused on extending previous knowledge and generating new knowledge, namely, this postgraduate course is aimed at specialisation, extending the vocational training of students holding a degree in Architectural Technology and providing training in research and doctorate studies in this field. The Master’s Degree takes an integrated approach, bringing together in a single degree all the advanced and specialised training necessary to begin a doctorate programme, from the technical knowledge perspective. Considering research as a professional field, this Master’s Degree can be seen as a period of preparation for the doctorate programme.

 

 

TIMESCALE FOR IMPLEMENTATION 

 

1. Timescale for implementation of the new Master’s Degree

 Implemented in the academic year 2009-2010, in order to enable students to complete the training stage and commence their doctorate studies.

2. Equivalence Recognition Procedures, where appropriate, between the current and the new course programme. 

Since this Master’s Degree does not strictly represent the transformation of a previous degree, credit equivalence between previous studies and this course is not envisaged.

3.  Studies that will be discontinued and replaced by the proposed Master’s Degree:

Officially recognised Master’s Degree in Construction, forming part of the officially recognised Postgraduate Programme in Construction, Technology, Research and Development, regulated by Royal Decree 56/2005.
