OBJECTIVES
The aim of this Master’s degree is to train specialists in the study of the historical development of western Mediterranean societies, where the Hispanic presence was of great importance during the period studied and it thereby contributed to shaping the identity of these societies.
Specialists in this area will be able to undertake direct research based on archival sources, and will be able to reflect on and synthesise historic graphical sources.
Furthermore, an understanding of the history of the different Spanish regions which integrated politically in a broader institution, namely, the Spanish Monarchy, (whilst at the same time keeping their regional identities in tact), will facilitate a better understanding of the problems facing the political construction of the European Union. For example, problems such as the reciprocal limits of sovereignty between the different member states, reconciliation of organisations with different cultural and historical traditions and the need to seek an ideological basis which respects the identities of each member state.
