To train researchers in the field of history and archaeology and archaeologists capable of practicing their profession in inter-disciplinary, plural and complex contexts.
Students are offered the tools with which to practice the profession, including concepts from related disciplines, the historical basis for archaeological interpretation, social and cultural aspects of methodology, and an awareness of the professional frameworks within which the profession is conducted (business, land use management, urban planning).

The course programme consists of an compulsory initial block of theoretical-practical content, offering an comprehensive training consistent with the attaining of specific study aims and divided into four compulsory modules and one optional module.
For the two subjects that make up the optional module, students may choose either of two routes:
As regards work experience, the Department of Prehistory, Archaeology, Ancient History, Greek Studies and Latin Studies has signed Work Experience Agreements with a range of institutions and businesses.
According to the Regulations of the University of Alicante, the following requirements must be complied to have access to official taught Master’s degrees:
- Non- recognised degree certificates shall require a technical report showing an equivalence statement issued by the University of Alicante (ContinUA – Continuing Education Centre), for which the corresponding fee should be paid.
- Access through this way does under no circumstances imply prior official approval of the holder’s degree certificate, nor its recognition for purposes other than studying a master's degree.
1. Admission criteria
Admission criteria include preferably a degree in History or Archaeology, or a related qualification such as Humanities, History of Art, Fine Art or Cultural Heritage, and in the case of a degree in Cultural Heritage, students must demonstrate theoretical and practical experience of activities related to historical and archaeological heritage.
Applicants should present their academic record and Curriculum Vitae detailing experience of activities related to historical and archaeological heritage.
2. Assessment criteria
Assessment will be based on the following criteria:
Where demand exceeds the number of places offered on the Master’s Degree, the Academic Committee will rank students according to achievement and the top 30 students with the highest number of points will be admitted to the course.

Students who intend to study for an officially recognised Master’s Degree at the UA should complete pre-enrolment in accordance with the guidelines and deadlines specified annually.

The professional scope of Archaeology also extends to public institutions, and professionals in the field of archaeology may practice in Municipal Archaeology departments, Museum Management, archaeological parks, etc., within the wider framework of cultural management required by society.

2. Procedure for equivalence recognition, where appropriate, between the current and the new course programme.
Students on the Official Master’s Degree Programme in Professional Archaeology: tools for the integrated management of archaeological heritage, currently being phased out, may ask to have their studies validated for the new Course Programme. For this, they should apply in writing to the Academic Committee for validation of the subjects they have already successfully taken.
3. Studies being phased out and replaced by the proposed degree course:
