OBJECTIVES

 

1. To acquire an advanced training in educational research.
1.1 To acquire current knowledge of research issues and perspectives on educational research findings among the international scientific community.
1.2 To understand and be able to apply the usual research procedures, using quantitative and qualitative methodologies in educational research.
1.3 To acquire and apply scientific communication skills in accordance with scientific community standards, and to develop independent learning skills.
2. To act in accordance with the ethical codes governing scientific research established by professional associations within the international educational community, endeavouring to promote positive social action as regards non-discrimination and the democratisation of knowledge.

GENERAL COURSE PROGRAMME

 

This Master’s Degree course consists of 60 credits which are organised into compulsory core modules and optional specific modules, the latter corresponding to the two main routes and the final project.

 

The optional routes reflect different lines of research, as detailed below:

1. Psychopedagogy route

2. Specific subject route.

 

The aim of the compulsory common core modules is to provide training in quantitative and qualititative methodologies and in the scientific literature, in order to encourage an inter- and multidisciplinary approach to the knowledge and skills acquired. At the same time the compulsory core modules offer an introduction to crossdisciplinary research in professional development in teaching, which reflects the different areas of research around which the Master’s Degree is structured.

 

The compulsory modules/subjects include:

  • Quantitative Research Methods (2 subjects)
  • Qualititative Research Methods (1 subject)
  • Research in Professional Development in Teaching (1 subject)

 

The areas of research in Psychopedagogy consist of the following optional modules/subjects:

  • Research in development, motivation and learning
  • Research in diversity awareness
  • Research in special education
  • Research in educational guidance
  • Research in digital technology applied to education

The areas of research in Teaching and Learning Specific Subjects consist of the following optional modules/subjects:

  • Research in Teaching Mathematics
  • Research in Teaching Language and Literature
  • Research in Teaching the Social Sciences
  • Research in Physical Activity and Sports Science
  • Research in Teaching Music

 

The following timetable has been proposed for the course programme. In the case of full-time students, the timetable is:

First term:

  • Compulsory core subjects: 12 credits (methodological)
  • Optional research subjects: 18 credits

Second term

  • Compulsory subjects: 3 credits
  • Optional research subjects: 12 credits
  • Master’s Final Project: 15 credits

 

 

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 

According to the Regulations of the University of Alicante, the following requirements must be complied to have access to official taught Master’s degrees:

  1. To be in possession of a SPANISH OFFICIAL GRADUATE DEGREE CERTIFICATE or other issued by an institution of higher education  within the EHEA (European Higher Education) that enables the holder to have access  to Master’s degrees in the issuing .
  2. To be in possession of an officially approved  FOREIGN HIGHER EDUCATION DEGREE CERTIFICATE that had been recognised as equal to the degree that allows access to the requested studies.
  3. To be in possession of a UNIVERSITY DEGREE CERTIFICATE obtained in a University or Higher Education Institution of COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE EHEA, without the prior approval of their studies. In this case, the following should be considered:
  • Non- recognised degree certificates shall require a technical report showing an equivalence statement issued by the University of Alicante (ContinUA – Continuing Education Centre), for which the corresponding fee should be paid.
  • Access through this way does under no circumstances imply prior official approval of the holder’s degree certificate, nor its recognition for purposes other than studying a master's degree.

 

ADMISSION AND ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

 

The implementation of specific entrance examinations beyond those established by the University itself is not envisaged,since students may be admitted to a Master’s Degree on the basis of the specific requirements as well as other criteria for assessing academic achievement relevant to the University Master’s Degree in question.

Students who intend to study for an officially recognised Master’s Degree at the UA should complete pre-enrolment in accordance with the guidelines and deadlines specified annually.

This Master’s Degree focuses on research, and consequently offers the possibility of obtaining advanced training in the fields of interdisciplinary education and research in psychopedagogy and specialist subject teaching. It provides multiple opportunities for progress in professional practice.

Professions for which the degree qualifies its holder

Researchers and experts in the field of education. The programme is intended for graduates whose aim is to conduct research in any field associated with current areas of research.  It is also suitable for university teachers and professionals who are interested in specialisation and research possibilites in innovation and emerging knowledge in education.  Furthermore, the course has been designed in order to render it accessible to graduates from Latin American Universities.

- Doctorate in Teaching Research Training: Teaching Mathematics, Teaching Language and Literature, Teaching Social Sciences, offered by the Department of Teaching Innovation and Training.
