Lexicography
Aplicación de los principios de la lexicología en la elaboración de diccionarios y glosarios, sobre todo monolingües y sobre corpus del inglés y español. También se abordan aspectos teóricos (metalexicográficos)
Lexicology
Se abordan aspectos relacionados con el léxico, como la etimología, las relaciones léxicas y los procesos de formación de palabras (composición, derivación, abreviación y préstamo).
Sociolinguistics
Como disciplina interdisciplinar que es, al estudiar el léxico se resaltan aspectos de la sociedad que inciden de una manera directa sobre el lenguaje, teniendo presente de un modo especial el contexto de sus usuarios. Se abordan tanto aspectos sincrónicos, relacionados con la variación, como diacrónicos o históricos, que tienen que ver sobre todo con el cambio lingüístico y la difusión de la lengua.

En un mundo como el actual donde es tan importante la interdependencia de los países en los planos de la política, la economía y la cultura, la influencia de un país hegemónico y su lengua, como es el caso del inglés, se poner de especial manifiesto en el léxico, mediante interferencias y préstamos de palabras (anglicismos) De un modo particular, el contacto íntimo entre dos lenguas que conviven dentro de un mismo país, como el inglés y el español en EE.UU.,da lugar a un abusivo número de préstamos e interferencias en español (Spanglish)y a una importante incorporación de palabras españolas en el inglés (hispanismos).
