Course context for academic year 2021-22

Introduction to macroeconomics is the first module of a sequence of two that introduce student into the functioning of the macroeconomic system.

General Competences (CG)

  • CG2 : Capacity for team work.

  • CG8 : Analyse problems using critical reasoning, without prejudices, precisely and rigorously.

Specific Competences (CE)

  • CE10 : Capacity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to solve theoretical and applied economic problems.

  • CE6 : Draft economic management projects at international, national or regional level.
  • CE8 : Identify the sources of relevant economic information and their content.

Learning outcomes (Training objectives)

  • To understand the basic problems addressed by Macroeconomics: activity, employment and aggregate prices.
  • To understand the indicators used to measure the aggregate progress of the economy.
  • To understand the importance of economic growth and the role played by the financial system.
  • To understand the nature of economic cycles and the economic policy tools used to stabilise fluctuations.
  • Introduction to the problems associated with open economies in their commercial and financial dealings with other countries.

 

 

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2021-22

To introduce the student to the functioning of the macroeconomic system. The module gives the student the ability to understand the financial press on related topics and formulate their own judgments on major macroeconomic developments.
