Course context for academic year 2023-24

The general objective of the course is that students understand and know the usefulness of statistics and demography in public health research. To acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes in order to create, refine, manage, analyze and interpret results from public health research data.

General Competences (CG)

  • CG1 : Que los estudiantes adquieran la capacidad para aplicar los conocimientos adquiridos a la resolución de los problemas y necesidades de salud de la población.
  • CG2 : Que los estudiante adquieran la capacidad de búsqueda documental, análisis y síntesis de la información, y redacción de los informes necesarios para el ejercicio de las funciones de Salud Pública.
  • CG3 : Que los estudiantes adquieran la habilidad para el desarrollo y mantenimiento de aprendizaje autónomo y formación continua.
  • CG4 : Que los estudiantes posean la capacidad para trabajar en equipo y con la población en la resolución de problemas de salud de la comunidad.
  • CG5 : Que los estudiantes sepan para formular una hipótesis, diseñar y desarrollar un proyecto de investigación en Salud Pública.
  • CG6 : Que los estudiantes posean la habilidad comunicar de forma oral como escrita las conclusiones a públicos especializados y no especializados.

 

Specific Competences (CE)

  • CE14 : Analizar los datos de estudios poblacionales en salud pública.
  • CE16 : Construir e interpretar los diferentes indicadores demográficos a partir de las fuentes de datos disponibles y el papel de los factores demográficos en las dinámicas de salud.
  • CE3 : Aplicar los fundamentos de los métodos estadísticos, epidemiológicos y cualitativos aplicados a problemas y necesidades de salud.
  • CE7 : Planificar un estudio aplicando los fundamentos y métodos de la investigación en Salud Pública.

• Develop communication skills.
• Learn to work in multidisciplinary teams..
• Identify the type of variables and the specific type of analysis to achieve the objectives of a research project in the field of public health
• To provide skills and abilities for the creation of databases and management of information collected in research projects in the field of public health.
• To develop the ability to use scientific methods and apply statistical and demographic analysis techniques in order to draw conclusions that facilitate decision making.
• Ability to analyze and synthesize the information resulting from statistical and demographic analyses, drawing the most relevant and pertinent conclusions.
• Awaken critical reasoning to assess the most appropriate analysis for each situation and correctly interpret the results of statistical and demographic analysis, and present them in a clear, concise and logical manner.
• To learn to work autonomously and responsibly in order to be able to satisfactorily respond to the exercises presented.
• Learn to manage time in order to deliver the exercises on time.
• Acquire skills in the use of statistical packages.
• Construct and interpret the different demographic indicators from the available sources of information.
• Interpret demographic factors influencing health dynamics.
• Develop population studies for public health monitoring and planning.
