Estudio de aspectos fundamentales del Sistema Judicial español. Análisis de los rasgos léxicos, sintácticos, discursivos y estilísticos del español jurídico.
Conocimiento y práctica de una amplia variedad de géneros profesionales escritos y orales, en español.

Specific Competences (CE)
- CE15 : Be able to synthesise the stages of analysis of a human language processing system (morpholexical, syntactic-semantic and pragmatic), the main problems and the main methods applied for IFE and EFE.
- CE16 : Be able to elucidate the linguistic nature that distinguishes the varieties of EFE: the terminology, syntax, rhetorical organisation and communicative strategies.
- CE19 : Be able to use the communicative and discursive techniques common to most of the discourses of the speciality, which serve to achieve different communicative purposes (argument techniques, presentation description, narrative, explanation, etc.).
- CE21 : Be able to analyse the discourses constructed using the languages of the speciality, in English and Spanish, and establish their qualities and deficiencies according to the parameters studied from different linguistic perspectives.
- CE25 : Ability to use existing resources to obtain, handle, interpret, manage and transmit information: databases, written and oral corpora, Internet and the ICTs.
- CE28 : Ability to process large amounts of text using the shell and simple programming languages (awk).
- CE29 : Ability to use advanced language processing tools: morphological-syntactic analysers (part-of-speech taggers) and syntactic analysers (parsers), as well as the main lexicosemantic resources available (e.g. WordNet).
- CE3 : Apply the theories, models and linguistic tools that are relevant for study and research of the EFE.
- CE30 : Ability to process parallel and comparable multilingual corpora.
- CE31 : Ability to use automatic translators and computer-assisted translation tools intelligently and know how to assess their usefulness in academic and research contents.
- CE36 : Ability to apply linguistic knowledge to researching some aspect related to the languages of the speciality (English and Spanish).
- CE5 : Master the specific terminology of different kinds of the EFE in the contexts where they are used.
- CE7 : Be able to analyse the communicative genres of the different varieties of EFE.
- CE8 : Be able to transmit the techniques of Plain Spanish and its application to legal Spanish.

- CG1 : Know how to apply the main perspectives, theories, techniques and analysis models in the field of interdisciplinary research of linguistics applied to the study of the IFE.
- CG2 : Know how to apply the main perspectives, theories, techniques and analysis models in the field of interdisciplinary research of linguistics applied to the study of the EFE.

- CG3 : Ability to apply the knowledge acquired and solve problems in new or little-known settings within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to the languages of one's speciality.
- CG4 : Know how to integrate knowledge and deal with the complexity of giving opinions on the basis of information that may be incomplete or limited and includes reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities associated with applying one's knowledge and opinions in academic and research contexts.
- CG5 : Possess the ability for self-learning in the academic and research contexts associated with the languages of one's speciality.
- CG6 : Capacity to choose or design the right method of work to achieve the goals proposed in the academic and research contexts of the languages of one's speciality.

- Demostrar el manejo de recursos de consulta y documentación del ámbito del español jurídico.
- Conocer el marco teórico-metodológico para el análisis de una amplia variedad de textos en el ámbito del español jurídico.
- Revisar una amplia variedad de textos, de acuerdo con las últimas propuestas de mejora del español jurídico.
- Conocer las líneas de investigación lingüística que se desarrollan en el ámbito del español jurídico.
- Ser capaces de trabajar en equipo y de desarrollar relaciones sociales desde el respeto y la no discriminación.
Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2010-11
Objetivos formativos
1. Desarrollar la competencia lingüística y comunicativa en español.
2. Ser capaz de comprender y expresarse en español con corrección y propiedad en el ámbito disciplinar del español jurídico.
3. Aplicar los conocimientos lingüísticos adquiridos a la interpretación y redacción de textos relacionados con el ámbito jurídico.
4. Aprender a aprender.
5. Tomar conciencia de los contenidos que se precisan saber para desarrollar una investigación.
6. Aprender a resolver problemas y tomar decisiones.
7. Determinar procedimientos de análisis adecuados para la resolución de problemas terminológicos o de interpretación de textos jurídicos en español.
8. Reformular en español la información contenida en textos jurídicos.
9. Exponer oralmente temas relacionados con el ámbito jurídico aplicado a situaciones específicas en el entorno social.
10. Aprender a utilizar recursos informáticos y virtuales para la resolución de problemas lingüísticos en la interpretación o formulación de textos jurídicos.
11. Aprender a utilizar recursos virtuales para la obtención de información encaminada a la contextualización del lenguaje jurídico en español o a la comunicación de dicha información.
12. Aprender a utilizar recursos informáticos para la confección de glosarios monolingües o bilingües relacionados con temas jurídicos.
13. Aprender a trabajar en equipo con profesionales del derecho.
14. Conocer y dominar la terminología del español jurídico básica y de los campos tratados.
15. Conocer la naturaleza lingüística que distingue a las variedades del español jurídico: la terminología, la sintaxis, la organización retórica, y las estrategias comunicativas.
16. Saber resumir y traducir del inglés al español y viceversa textos especializados en inglés o español.
17. Ser capaz de desempeñar labores técnicas de carácter lingüístico, en español, en ámbitos profesionales (redacción de documentos, traducción de textos, ejercer de mediador lingüístico entre hablantes nativos y no nativos del español y del inglés, etc.).
18. Llevar a cabo tareas de apoyo lingüístico, en español, a la dirección de viajes, ferias, misiones comerciales, etc., así como gestionar, organizar, interpretar, y redactar textos y documentos en lengua española.
19. Saber manejar y valorar los recursos documentales que permitan abordar adecuadamente la comprensión, la producción o la traducción de textos especializados, del inglés al español y viceversa.
20. Ser capaz de hacer una presentación académica oral en español.
