Course context for academic year 2017-18
Introduction to and historical-critical analysis of 20th-century Irish drama in English in its socio-political and cultural context. Relationship of 20th-century Anglo-Irish drama with written and oral Irish tradition. Study of the innovations in the works of the Irish Dramatic Movement both in the style of the texts and in their performance as plays.

Students will have to:
-become familiar with the main dramatic trends in English in 20th-century Ireland as well as with the most important playwrights and plays.
-enlarge their knowledge of how to develop and put into practice techniques of critical analysis of dramatic texts.
-study more deeply the relationship between a written dramatic text and the main factors ruling its actual performance as a play.
