Course context for academic year 2017-18

The compulsory matter Fundamentals of Nursing of the Curriculum of Nursing Degree of the Faculty of Health Sciences has 12 ECTS credits assigned, distributed in two subjects of 6 credits each: Fundamentals of Nursing I and Fundamentals of Nursing II.

Fundamentals of Nursing I is located in the second quarter of the first year basic teaching.

Fundamentals of Nursing II is a compulsory second-year subject situated in the first quarter.

This discipline constitutes a central axis in the theoretical and methodological foundations of nursing in the practicum in general and in the subject: Practicum IV: Foundations of nursing and nursing care of adult I, in particular.

Fundamentals of Nursing has as main objective to analyse, organise and systematise all the contents of nursing to extract the common basic principles that differentiate nursing from other branches of knowledge and other professions. Besides, Fundamentals Nursing would be responsible for establishing the epistemological and historical anthropological basis on which to establish the principles of nursing research.

  • E-2 : Base the interventions of Health Science professionals on scientific evidence and the available resources.

 

General Competences of the Degree Course (CG):>>Nursing sciences module

  • 15 : Identify, integrate and relate the concept of health and caring from a historical viewpoint to understand the evolution of nursing care.
  • 16 : Understand the evolution of the central concepts configuring nursing as a discipline from an ontological and epistemological viewpoint, as well as the most significant theoretical models, applying scientific methodology to the caring process and developing the corresponding care plans.
  • 17 : Apply the nursing process to provide and guarantee the well-being, quality and safety of those being cared for.
  • 18 : Understand and apply the principles that sustain integrated nursing care.
  • 51 : Provide care, guaranteeing the right to dignity, privacy, confidentiality and the capacity of patients and their families to make decisions.
  • 52 : Individualise care according to age, gender, cultural differences, ethnic groups, beliefs and values.

  • Identify the scope and complexity of the care process and the actions that involve the nurse.
  • Define, identify and relate the stages of the methodological instrument of care.
  • Identify the characteristics of the nurse assessment.

  • Analyse the importance of nursing diagnosis (ND).
  • Identify, define, differentiate and formulate the different types of ND. Differentiate between ND and collaboration or Interdependent Problem.

  • Explain the points of reference for observing the manifestations of dependence.
  • Describe the interactions between problem and cause and non-satisfaction of other needs.
  • Indicate nursing interventions, as well as the vigilance and specific care of clients who present one or more dependency problems.
  • Know and apply different types of records, as well as the nursing documentation necessary for the good administration of basic care.
