Course context for academic year 2020-21

The subject analysis and processing of clinical images is part of a context in which Information and Communication Technologies play a central role in the healthcare environment. Especially the use of clinical imaging is opening up important possibilities for diagnostic and treatment support. The evolution of different types of image acquisition technologies and processing techniques is bringing new functionality to specialists. Within this framework, the clinical imaging course provides a theoretical and practical review of clinical image acquisition and processing techniques of great value to health information technology specialists.

General Competences (CG)

  • CG3 : Diseñar, desarrollar y evaluar procedimientos de análisis en el ámbito de la salud.
  • CG4 : Evaluar y seleccionar equipos y plataformas tecnológicas para la implantación de sistemas biomédicos, servicios y aplicaciones en el ámbito de la salud, valorando el retorno de la inversión.
  • CG6 : Conocer las materias básicas y tecnologías, que capaciten tanto para el aprendizaje y desarrollo de nuevos métodos y tecnologías, como para la adaptación a nuevas situaciones en el ámbito de la ingeniería biomédica.

 

Specific Competences (CE)

  • CE14 : Desarrollar, mantener y evaluar sistemas de adquisición, almacenamiento, transmisión y tratamiento de señales e imágenes clínicas.
  • CE8 : Comprender que los datos biomédicos pueden ser medidos, comparados, agrupados y saber presentarlos de la mejor manera posible dependiendo del propósito que se persiga en el ámbito de la ingeniería biomédica.

  • CT1 : Adquirir capacidades informáticas e informacionales.
  • CT2 : Ser capaz de comunicarse correctamente tanto de forma oral como escrita.
  • CT3 : Adquirir capacidad de análisis y síntesis.

Specific objectives stated by the academic staff for academic year 2020-21

  • To review different medical imaging technologies (radiology, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, computerized tomography, PET, nuclear magnetic resonance imaging).
  • To study methods and techniques of clinical image processing and diagnostic support (pre-processing of images, segmentation, description and interpretation of clinical images). Image compression techniques. Clinical applications.
