Competencies and objectives

Course context for academic year 2019-20

The subject Computer and Networks Maintenance Engineering (from now on IMCR), is framed in the branch of Computer Architecture. It is an optional course in the speciality of Computer Engineering, providing an effective and appealing complement to the competencies in practical/ theoretical knowledges to subjects like Computer Engineering, Computer Architecture and Networks of Computers. On the other hand, this course has a very well defined by the transversal scope and practical application, which competencies are closely link to the needs of the society.

The predecessor subjects Physical Foundations of the Computing, Computer Foundations, Networks of Computers and Computer Architecture, that the student should have attended before, are a previous recommendation in order the students to start the course with a sufficient knowledge in architecture, technology and physical foundations of the computers, that will be consolidated and formalised.

IMCR frames the aspects, knowledge and skills involved in the integral maintenance of a computer system including computers, networks and sensors, from the study of the maintenance of the parts (software and hardware), until the step of proposing a maintenance strategy for a specific system as well as the contingency plan.

The subject might include a project that framed in the itinerary of Computer Engineering, related to other subjects of the same itinerary, providing the student a broad vision of the different parts of a major project.

Therefore, this subject includes to work with terms such like Internet-of-Things, monitoring, characterisation of computer and network maintenance, synchronisation, integration of computers and sensors, among others.

Course content (verified by ANECA in official undergraduate and Master’s degrees)

Specific Competences (Specific Technology):>>Computer Engineering
